WHAT IS COMPULSORY VOTING?
Compulsory voting is a system when citizens have no other option but to vote in the General Election at the nearest polling station or recive a sanction. This can include a fine, possible imprisonment or the voter would have to give a legitimate reason for his or her absense to avoid any further sanctions.
 
WHY IS VOTING IMPORTANT?
  • We live in a democracy which means that we have the right to vote for what we want in free and fair elections. 
  • Voting gives the government legitimacy.
  • Voting gives citizens the power to choose who they want in power.
